Collating in printing refers to the process of organizing printed copies of a multi-page document in a specific order. When printing multiple copies of a multi-page document, the printer can collate the pages in two different ways:

Uncollated: The printer will print each page of the document separately and sequentially, and then repeat the process for each copy. For example, if you're printing 3 copies of a 5-page document, the printer will print page 1 of the document 3 times, then print page 2 of the document 3 times, and so on.

Collated: The printer will print the document pages in the order they appear, for each copy. For example, if you're printing 3 copies of a 5-page document, the printer will print all 5 pages of the document once, then repeat the process for each copy. The final result will be three complete sets of the 5-page document in the correct order.
