Hello, everyone!
I'm a
freelance web developer and wanted to start a conversation on something that many of us encounter—navigating client expectations. Whether you're new to freelancing or have been in the game for a while, managing what clients expect can be a real challenge. It’s crucial to keep clients satisfied without compromising on the quality of our work or stretching ourselves too thin. I’d love to hear how others here handle this balance!
Here are a few things that I’ve found helpful:
Clear Project Scope: I’ve learned the hard way that clearly defining the project scope up front is essential. For instance, if I’m building a website, I make sure to outline what’s included—like design, specific features, or revisions. If the client asks for something beyond that, I gently remind them that it’s outside the original scope and discuss any additional costs.
Transparent Communication: Regular updates are key. Clients really appreciate it when they’re kept in the loop, especially for bigger projects. I set up weekly check-ins to discuss progress and address any new questions. This approach has helped me avoid last-minute surprises and keeps everything transparent.
Set Realistic Timelines: Sometimes clients think we can finish projects overnight. I make sure to outline a realistic timeline from the start. Breaking it down into phases, like design, development, and testing, helps clients understand that quality work takes time.
