Do Book Publishing Companies Handle Marketing Effectively?

I’m considering working with a Book Publishing services, but I’m unsure how much marketing support they truly provide. Some publishers claim to promote books, but I’ve heard that many authors still have to do their own marketing.

If you’ve worked with a publisher, how involved were they in promoting your book? Did they help with book tours, media outreach, or social media campaigns? Or was most of the work left to you? Looking forward to your insights!
